The 5 Best Reloading Scales
Probably not the most fun part of reloading ammo, but it certainly is an important part – weighing out your grains of powder. You’re going to need a good reloading scale and if you want to make it quick, you’re going to need a GREAT reloading scale.
In this post we did the research and reviewed the best reloading scales on the market right now.
Let’s get started below.
Quite simply, a great little digital scale that costs far less than a triple-beam balance, and measures up to 705 grains, accurate to 0.1 grains. The display is easily switchable, so you can change the weight measurement to grams, carats, or ounces.
It comes with a built-in cover, a powder tray, calibration weight, storage case, and even two AAA batteries to power it. It calibrates automatically, so there’s very little to do. A great little scale, no matter what your needs are. Cases, projectiles, or powder measure. It works great for all of them. Plus, just check out what people are saying about this scale on Amazon.
If you went with a red reloading kit, then you need one of these on your desk. Straight from Hornady, with a 1500 grain capacity, and accuracy to 0.1 grains, this wonderful scale is designed perfectly for bullet reloading.
The display is large and easy to read, and it works well with a trickler, so that you can meter out you powder weights quickly and efficiently, without worrying if the calibration is going to fall off. Comes with an integrated cover. Runs on two AAA batteries.
As a note, if you are measuring over 500 grains, the precision falls off a bit. Still, if you are looking for an all around great powder measure, this should serve you well. Even if you aren’t a Hornady fan-boy, a little bit of red in your reloading setup isn’t going to hurt anything. You don’t need their press (like we reviewed here) to benefit from their top-notch ancillary equipment.
There are a lot of automatic powder measures out there. This one could be yours. Designed for speed and efficiency, the trickle speed is controlled based on how close the grain measure is to full.
Will fill to a capacity of 1000 grains with 0.1 grain precision, and you can either choose to let it run on auto, or weigh in yourself. Comes with three different speed settings and it’s own overcharge protection, and comes with a one year warranty.
Works good, works fast, and the best part is that it’s super easy to clean out. It comes with a one year warranty, and the manual of arms is pretty simple to learn and follow. One you go automatic for dispensing your powder charges, you will not likely go back to a triple-beam balance ever again.
This is a quite wonderful little powder scale that runs on two AAA batteries. It’s sleek, streamlined, and the instructions are right on the inside of the integrated cover. It comes with a big weight for calibration, and it will fit in a pocket, in case you need to measure something while away from your reloading bench.
It’s also discrete, having a black color rather than shouting out with Hornady red. The capacity is 1500 grains, so it will take on the largest reloading tasks.
If you are looking for total accuracy, this scale might serve a couple singular purposes for you. For a pistol powder measure it works great, measuring down to 0.001 gram increments. Selecting grains, you are are still measuring down to a precision of 0.02, much better than other powder measures. The downside is the cap. It will only measure up to 300 grains, but for most of us, that’s more than enough.
Heavier projectile measurements for target rounds will need something bigger, but almost every single other task that most of us face on the reloading bench can be achieved with this wonderful little scale, and it’s backed up by a ten year warranty. It’s quite a gem in the world of scales.
