Best Laser Sight
Whether you have firearms for recreation, home defense, or concealed carry, accuracy is something that is important to you.
For those just learning to shoot or in situations where you have mere seconds to aim, accuracy becomes even more paramount, which is why more and more people are using laser sights on their guns.
In addition to the increased accuracy, laser sights are also phenomenal for giving visual feedback that helps new shooters naturally increase accuracy and confidence, assist those with eye-dominance issues, and make it much easier to shoot from awkward or non-traditional shooting positions.
If you think that a laser sight may be just the thing for you, here are some of our top picks.
Crimson Trace laser sights as a whole are one of the top-selling laser sights for a reason.
No matter which type of handgun you happen to have, chances are Crimson Trace makes a laser sight specifically for that model, but if you want an excellent universal option, the CMR-206 is just for you.
The CMR-206 will fit any gun with a Picatinny rail, and since it comes with four different rail mount sizes, mounting it is merely a matter of finding the one that fits your specific firearm.
The CMR-206 has instant activation thanks to the ambidextrous on/off switch on the side of the sight, and you can also switch between momentary on, constant on, or strobe for the laser.
The laser itself is a bright, vibrant green that is highly visible in almost any light level. The laser is powered by a 1/3N battery and can run continuously for 2 hours before the battery will need to be changed out.
The auto shut-off after 5 minutes also helps to conserve the battery life. Upon arrival, the CMR-206 is factory sighted at 50 feet but also has fully adjustable windage and elevation, though you will need the included tool to adjust them.
The CMR-206 also comes with Crimson Trace’s standard three-year warranty, so you can have peace of mind while you break in your laser sight. The only complaint for the Crimson Trace CMR-206 is the low battery life.
This is compensated for by Crimson Trace’s free batteries for life policy, though it may be a bit inconvenient to have to contact them every time your battery begins to run down.
In the grand scheme of things, two hours is a somewhat short run-time, so if you decide the CMR-206 is the right laser sight for you, you will want to make sure to purchase a good supply of batteries in case shipping new ones takes longer than expected.
The Streamlight TLR-4 is another top-selling laser sight, and this is, in large part, to the array of features it comes with paired with its well-known reliability.
The TLR-4 has both a laser sight as well as a tactical light. One of the stand-out features of the TLR-4 is the use of C4 LED technology. C4 LED technology is impervious to shock and has an impressive 50,000 hours of run-time before the battery will need to be replaced if you use solely the laser.
The engineered deep-dish parabolic reflector creates a bright, intense beam with peripheral illumination that not only makes zeroing in on your target a breeze but gives you a better range as well.
For an added bonus, the LED illumination on the tactical light is so intense that it can absolutely disorient an attacker, giving you precious time to decide your next steps.
The TLR-4 has an ambidextrous on/off switch and can toggle between the tactical light, laser sight, or a combination of both. The TLR-4 fits on a tactical rail mount and has a rail clamp designed from rapid attachment or detachment, allowing it to be switched between guns with ease and does not require tools to install.
It is built with a rugged impact-resistant polymer with a face cap made with 6000 series machined aircraft aluminum.
The Streamlight TLR-4 is a fantastic option, though it would be even better if the tactical light offered a strobe option.
The Sightmark Triple Duty is one of the least expensive laser sights available, but don’t let the lower price point fool you.
The Triple Duty is small, lightweight, and accurate, giving excellent quality for a very budget-friendly price. Installation is simple, only requiring to place the arbor of the bore sight into your weapon’s barrel, and then you are good to go.
The boresight base is magnetic, so it holds itself in place inside of the barrel, and the retractable arbor will automatically center the boresight.
Getting the boresight zeroed is relatively easy, only needing a bit of live fire to help compensate for small inconsistencies, like bullet drop over longer distances. The beam itself holds true, and the red color makes hitting your target quickly and accurately simple, and the manual on/off switch is great for conserving battery life.
The Triple Duty is made brass for durability and has a wide range of calibers so that it can suit almost any handgun or rifle. The Triple Duty also comes with a handy carrying case to keep it secure and protected during travel.
Sightmark also offers a limited warranty, which is an excellent perk for such a cost-effective sight. For the price point, the Triple Duty provides good reliability and impressive accuracy, but it is not perfect.
The laser, while relatively easy to spot, would be even more efficient if it were brighter. We also found that when carrying the boresight in its pouch that it was very easy to toggle the on/off switch accidentally but adding in a strip of Velcro to hold it more securely was an easy fix.
The battery compartment is also attached to the same area as the switch, which made changing out the batteries a bit tricky as well.
Best Laser Sight For Your Price Range
If you’ve got a healthy budget for a laser sight, the top two picks are your best choice. However our final recommendation is perfect for those who want the benefits of a laser sight with a budget friendly price.
